Air Guidelines for Outdoor Activity

Perry Weather Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) readings listed in the 3-widgets and chart below are NOT basic air temperatures. WBGT readings are calculated using a WBGT device that takes into account factors like humidity, solar radiation, and wind speed to provide a more accurate assessment of heat stress.

In the event of an Air Quality Alert (AQI 151 or above) or Heat Advisory (WBGT 92.1 or above), all district sites will shut down once any one of the monitoring stations reaches the designated threshold level.

Identify the Perry Weather WBGT reading for your nearest school.

- Sanger West High School
Find appropriate actions allowed per WBGT reading in the SUSD Outdoor Activity Guideline chart.
Schools must react appropriately within 30 minutes.

*Lightning Safety for Schools: Stay indoors until 30 minutes have passed since the last lightning strike within 10 miles of your nearest school. Use the lightning countdown timer on your school pyramid’s widget below to plan outdoor activities safely.

Air Quality Safety and Excessive Heat Procedures for Outdoor Activities

Sanger Unified School District (SUSD) will provide information to schools regarding alerts of poor air quality and excessive heat from the Perry Weather Monitoring and Alerting System. An automated email or text notification is sent from Perry Weather Monitoring and Alerting System to district office administrators, principals, and athletic directors to identify unhealthy air quality and excessive heat.

In the event of an Air Quality Alert (AQI 151 or above) or Excessive Heat Advisory (WBGT 92.1 or above), all district sites will postpone or cancel outdoor activities due to the weather conditions once any one of the monitoring stations reaches the designated threshold level.
